I Suoni delle Dolomiti: Marco Paolini, Alberto Ziliotto
White Flag. The Irresistible Rise of the Tourism Vocation. Christ is a Resort
A civil theatre production unpacks the complexities of mass tourism, navigating themes of surrender, resistance and the quest for sustainability
Special Project
The Prati Col, a few hundred metres from the centre of San Martino di Castrozza, form a perfect amphitheatre from which to admire the natural spectacle of the Pale di San Martino, with the unmistakable profiles of the Sass Maor and Cima della Madonna, Cima Rosetta and Cimon della Pala. It is easy to understand why this place, like others scattered throughout Trentino and the entire Alpine arc, has long been a popular tourist destination, also made famous by films and literature.
The choice seems particularly appropriate for the setting of the project by Marco Paolini, director, author, actor and film producer, who was also born in the Alps, in Belluno, and is much loved by the public both for the intensity of his work and for the social commitment that underlies it – just think of "Il racconto del Vajont" (The Vajont Story), which was an extraordinary success with the public and the critics. This time Paolini presents a text written expressly for the occasion, as part of the ‘Atlante delle Rive’ project, dedicated to bodies of water and created with the collective La Fabbrica del Mondo.
The title refers to an issue that is currently the subject of much debate, even at these altitudes: the boom in mass tourism and its impact both on the social fabric of the areas it targets and on the natural environment. An impact that, as we know, is positive in some respects, but also a source of new problems.
With him is Alberto Ziliotto, one of the finest Italian acoustic fingerstyle guitarists, formerly a student of maestro Luca Trevisan, with numerous records and collaborations to his name, ranging from original pieces to rearrangements of famous compositions.
